Next Openreel

31st March 2007

We are currently reorganising Openreel so it is unlikely to run monthly, but do not fear, Plymouth’s open projection night will still be a date in the diary, just not quite as regularly.

There will be no openreel on the first Monday in April.

We are having a Celebration of Student Film in May, date to be announced, giving final year students from colleges across the city the opportunity to showcase their final year pieces. So, calling all final year students, I am sure you are very proud of your final year project so this is your moment to show it off in front of an audience other than your immediate peers. So, if you ever wondered what PCAD or university students get up to or want to see work from a particular course then this is your chance.

There are some special invites going out to the media industry as well so, a great opportunity to network…. I am not going to say any more.

If you are interested in screening your work please contact us via the email: info@openreel.co.uk

Keep watching this space for the date of this unique evening: A Celebration of Student Film.

For those looking for to fill the void left by the temporary (we hope) absence of OpenReel can get their fix at Chew-Digest, a new monthly screening night in Plymouth.

Chew TV, the groundbreaking internet TV channel designed for young creative talent, has joined forces with Plymouth’s Barbican Theatre to present a series of screening nights.

As well as showcasing new content for the web TV channel the monthly event will also give young film makers a chance to show their work as there will be a dedicated section for material submitted on the night.

Chew-Digest will present a unique experience with more in common with a nightclub than a cinema with multiple screens, music and drinks promotions while creating an atmosphere for debate and exchanging of ideas.

Open screen submissions in any area of moving and still image are called for the first event to be held on Thursday the 24th of May and continuing on the last Thursday of each month.

Chew-Digest will feature monthly themes, with June’s event tying in with “The Ocean Project” held around the Barbican and Hoe, at the National Marine Aquarium as well as the Barbican Theatre where the theme will be that cruel mistress, the sea!

For more information on the event and submitting material to be screened check out the website at www.myspace.com/ChewTVEvents or contact event organiser Matthew Grant via email at ChewTVEvents@googlemail.com
